What is Renewable Energy?
Renewable energy is defined as the energy that is
can be renewable naturally. It includes wind, rain, sunlight, geothermal heat, and tides. It originates from natural resources. There
are many types of renewable energy that are growing very fast as people
worldwide attempt to find ways to protect the environment.
Wind power is one of the fastest
growing forms of renewable energy. It is used in Asia, Europe, and in the
United States, and it is growing by 30 percent annually around the world.
Windmills, or wind turbines are used to make electricity with this method.
Multiple turbines are usually gathered together on a wind farm for this
purpose.
Solar power is energy from the sun.
Humans are currently using very little of this source of energy at the moment,
but projections are that it will be used much more in the next 50 years. This
power is capable at this moment of cooking, heating water and homes, and of
many more uses that people depend on.
Biomass is plant material that is
burned to release the energy stored in it from the sun. Some plants are grown
specifically to be burned for energy and left over parts of plants are also
used, such as twigs and small parts of tree trunks.
Geothermal energy is taken from the
heat of the earth by pumping heat from the earth’s core. Hydro power is a form of energy obtained by capturing the energy
from water. Dams are often used to produce electricity. Water is also being
used to harness energy through the use of tidal
wave and wave power around the
world. The world’s first tidal power station is in Ireland, and it uses the
speedy tidal flow to produce electricity. In the same way, the power of ocean
waves is captured to produce energy. It is sometimes referred to as ocean energy.
Nuclear
poweris a
controversial form of energy and some sources consider it to be dangerous
because of the potential for accidents that can cause harm to those living in
the surrounding area.
A renewable
energy source is considered to be a source that can be replenished at the
same rate that it is used, as in the case of biomass when trees are planted to replace those that have been cut
down. It can also be a continuing, self-renewing source such as energy from the
ocean waves or from the sun. Alternative
energy is the term used to describe any type of energy that is used to
replace fossil fuels, which emit carbon dioxide that damages the earth’s ozone.
